Not only was this book written by a BAD ASS, it was also written by a TRUE daddy's girl. One that was so sensitive about her name that she made it easier for everyone else, by shortening her middle name, Anjanetta, to Angie, in an apologetic manner. In life, sometimes we run away from the things that make us unique. Growing up in Indianapolis, IN, Vivica was called anything but the legal validation of her name correctly. She didn't become VIVICA until her arrival in California and met her first casting director at an audition. After telling her REAL name, then began blurting out her usual reference: You can call me Angie. Vivica was instructed to be Vivica A. Fox, to remember that Vivica's A Fox.
Vivica's mother, Everlyena Fox, spent her daughter's childhood working. She was a single mom who held down 2 jobs to provide for Vivica and her 3 siblings after a parental divorce when Vivica was age 4. Everlyena believed in 2 things: Work & God. It was at this time, Vivica was on her own. With her mom having her hands full with her children; Vivica had to figure her shit out. Everlyena was advised to pray the problems away in her Bible. It will all work itself out. So, Vivica began as instructed. Looking back at this experience, seeing a hump as a short stint to eventually put in the work to get yourself out of it. Vivica kept at it. She worked her ass off - sometimes LITERALLY! to get her noted film roles. Some roles were offered to her due to her grit, grut & riskiness. Grind doesn't stop, and people notice. Having to fight for your place is a daily struggle at the table. Looking at the wrongs instead of the rights. Get out of your own way and be your own cheerleader. . .from the beginning start.
At the age of around 6-7, 2-years past her parental divorce, Vivica's father was visiting her mother's home in Indianapolis, and she and her 3 siblings were enjoying time with him in the backyard. They were 2 blocks from the projects, nestled in a long row of ranch houses on washed cars in the driveways. Everylena had worked 2 jobs to become her own homeowner and enjoy her independence. The BIGGEST lesson Vivica learned from her mom was this: You Get Knocked Down. It's Up To You To Get Back Up! Success does not guarantee the absence of getting your ass kicked. Lessons learned from growing up with brothers cohesively. Vivica would whoop their asses in sports growing up until she could beat them fairly.
To her very core being, Vivica is a 100% Daddy's Girl. Her heart always belonged to him. William Fox began taking his baby girl along to Pacers games and began pick-up games whenever he visited. He worked with her jump-shot until she nailed it and made the Fox proud. Vivica also tagged along with her brothers to the Coliseum to see wrestling matches. This was the Indiana-based version of the WWE. No frills, but plenty of drama. Their favorite was Dick The Brusier. Vivica tried so hard to fit in with her brothers as they taught her what they copied from The Bruiser. Growing up with brothers that wrestled with Vivica gave her the toughness like acquaintances.

Vivica & Sug |
It was boys in one room. Girls in another. Vivica always gave way for Sug., especially once she got the job. When Sug began working at Target, Vivica would steal her sister's clothes. Vivica was in such a rush to grow up to care. As part of caring for her sister, Sug taught Vivica their mother's recipes. Stretching the meal with tons of rice. Although Vivica isn't a chef by ANY means, she memorized her family recipes. Vivica looks forward to those recipes every family gathering. Growing up in the Fox family, you welcome abundance with gratitude. A major gratitude was her sister, Sug. In her professional working life as an actress, if the role called for a mother, whether it be as Maxine in Soul Food or other, that's Sug on the screen being played by big sis, Vivica. In seeing the film itself, Sug KNEW when Vivica immolating her. Boy, did she let Vivica know. Vivica was/has ALWAYS been inspired by Sug at the way she kept the glue intact for the Fox family. The reviews that the Fox family gave to Vivica after the screening of the film MEANT THE WORLD to her.

Everylena Fox |
Vivica watched her mother work so hard for the independence she worked hard for financially raising 4 kids without the dependency of a man. Everlyena always worked 2 jobs; from nursing-to-working at her children's school. When Everlyena was home, she didn't have time to be anything but a disciplinarian, making sure they were clean, getting good grades and always church-ready. Living across the street from they attended Breeding Tabernacle. Vivica's happiest moments with her mother resided in the kitchen on the Saturday's they could be home. While her mother worked in the kitchen all day, the kids would be cleaning up the house. Everyone was onto their roles. Due to their cherished memories, to this day, Vivica has to have that Pine-Sol in her home. That is EVIDENCE of cleanliness. Even with 4 kids, Everlyena stretched the generosity of her heart to those of others from time-to-time. Vivica's cousin from South Bend spent summers with them from time-to-time. Their cousin, Dana, would spend quality time with her cousins from South Bend. Since they were born 2 days apart, Dana was like the babysitter Vivica never had.
When Vivica was around 10, Everlyena got a job working at Eli Lily in Indy, as a pharmaceutical tech. When she couldn't provide time, Everylena provided. Security was how Everylena showed affection. She wanted to show her children and assure them no one would give them anything. To that principal. Vivica was thankful for that instillment of work ethic. While others laughed/snickered, Vivica laughed harder with financial freedom, just as her mother did.
Work ethic itself came with a price. When you build it yourself, it's hard to let people do things for you. Whether it's the weight of emotional baggage or a carry-on-suitcase, BE COMFORTABLE IN YOUR OWN SKIN AS AN INDIVIDUAL BEFORE BECOMING A
COUPLE! The Fox children threw themselves into every extracurricular activity there was. At Arlington High, Vivica wanted to be the best at track, volleyball & cheerleading. And, of course, basketball. Vivica was also open to finding surrogate parents, a teacher friend of hers. Vivica found her teacher dignified in kindness and manner. Her teacher friend had a husband, a teacher as well, from her age of 6-yrs-old to the senior year of high school. They were always in teaching mode, and truly taught Vivica to notice her surroundings. No matter what they did or where they went, there was always a hidden lesson.
Vivica's dad moved around alot, but he spoke to her daughter weekly in the one and went to his daughter's athletic games. He had a way of holding Vivica's attention and quietly coached his daughter, especially during basketball. Vivica's position was a power forward, which required toughness and playing defense and shut down an opposing player. Vivica had so much energy and took every game seriously before warning of being too hyped. Vivica was often told to "chill"; which meant to "Attract intelligently". A truly cherished memory where Vivica will never truly forget the first time her father gave his daughter her first pair of Converse shoes. An item that Vivica showed pride in. Her father began purchasing more shoes as a mean of showing support to his daughter. She wound up with so many sneakers that she'd left with 2 left shoes in her bag for an away game at another school. A BIG game; one that could've qualified them for a championship game. Out of sheer panic, Vivica went and arrived with an open bag realizing what she'd done. What could she do. . .but her best? It became one of the BEST games EVER played with 2 left feet. The team went on to play for city championships. Indy had rewarded them proudly and greatly with an awards ceremony. Her dad came, but not her mother. All Vivica remembers were a bucket of tears . . .meant 2 ways. Victory for her team. And the loss of her mom missing out on this special moment.
The area of Indy in which Vivica grew up was all she truly knew in life; but her brother, Marvin, was about to spark the beginning of her plan to see the world. Marvin went on to become Sarge due to enlisting in the military when he was 18. It was during peacetime in 1978. A few years later, Marvin was still in the military when Vivica was trying to make it in California. Some new girlfriends wanted to show Vivica a good time, so they took her to Soul Train. So, Vivica did the line, dancing her heart out in a grey dress that flattered her on TV. Vivica recieved a letter from her brother, Marvin, after the episode aired. It was NEWS. Marvin was watching TV with some of his buddies and he began screaming with excited delight. THAT'S MY BABY SISTER! That was the first time Vivica was ever on TV. Vivica is FOREVER GRATEFUL to share/have this moment with her brother, Marvin. But, for now, Vivica was still in Indy while Marvin saw the world. Vivica just had a head start.
When their mother got time from her job, she and Vivica would take road trips to see family in Mississippi (Talk about country as all hell) After that were trips to see family in Chicago that Vivica loved. One of their Chicago relatives was Vivica's aunt Corinne; AKA, Madame King, who owned a salon on the South Side. In time, Madame King would become her very own fairy godmother. It was in her salon, a palace for a kid; where Vivica first discovered movie magazines the summer she turned 13. It was the stories of those leading extraordinary lives. Ebony Magazine ads featured gorgeous ladies of color looking right at the camera - at her. It was during that time, at age 13, just before starting high school. John Keates spoke to her:
"Beauty is truth. Truth is beauty. That is all there is on Earth. And all you need to know." - John Keates
When Vivica was presented with an opportunity to be in a fashion show; she jumped at the opportunity. Vivica put herself into the hands of Madame King. . .and was never the same. She cut Vivica's hair short; a pixie with a bit of a shag, leaving it a little bit longer in the back. Vivica loved that hairdo! She began walking into that show with confidence. Exactly the way Madame King taught her. As she strutted her way down the runway, it was then that Vivica bit the entertainment bug,. . . compliments of Madame King. Vivica decided RIGHT THEN/THERE. . .her journey would start with modeling. It would start getting everyone's attention and getting you noticed. Why not be fabulous for a living?
Vivica began high school with that haircut. Everyone was in awe, and they loved it. It was then that Vivica began announcing her dream publicly. "I'm going to be a star. You'll see!" She just needed to figure out the how to. Vivica began setting a new goal for herself. The bigger the dream, the more likely people are likely to tell you not to and laugh in your face. People will try to deny you your dream. The ones who keep you close and keep you feeling strangled. If you find yourself in these situation(s), check yourself THE HELL out.

Arlington High |
Vivica watched classmates began having kids at 13-14 yrs-of-age. The majority of her girlfriends had gotten pregnant, and Vivica WATCHED their STRUGGLE! (Not the struggle that MTV paid them for.) RIGHT THEN & THERE, Vivica KNEW this particular life wasn't for her. As they got older, Vivica & Sug paid attention to their friends' actions. They had the INSIGHT of life's choices and results.
What Vivica admired about Sug is that she always had it handed. Sug spent a lifetime looking after her siblings. Sug warned her baby sister, Vivica, not to mess with boys or she'll end up like their mother, Everylena. Sug could've been anything in the world that the world that life threw at her. Sundays' for the Fox family were ALL about Church. During Barack Obama's campaign, they knew Vivica was a BIG worker bee. In 2012, Vivica and her girlfriends went and knocked on doors and went to all the union halls. Vivica passed out coffees to people outside waiting to get into the rallies. It was fun and so rewarding to feel like a part of something that is HISTORIC! Every time Vivica sees the Obamas, Barack is so kind. Her having shown with PRIDE! Vivica sees the Obama's as a shining example of Black Excellence.
So, when Vivica and Angela Bassett were asked if they would help go around South Carolina to get the vote. Vivica jumped at the chance. She believed in Hilary Clinton's vision. She began to lose her emotions as she learned/heard from HBCU alumni whom marched for civil rights. With each shared story along the campaign that Vivica heard, she just emotionally broke. The more Vivica looked around at the fresh faces of the Next Generation of voters in the audience. She thought to herself that this and many more moments are abound. This gave Vivica the ambition to WANT TO give back. Her overall point was to surround herself with something other than yourself.
Vivica's friends from high school formed what would become her Indy squad, the same quad she drew on for love/support that she's had since she was a little girl.
But, nobody had quite the same dreams as Vivica. There was no actual way of a team-up of Vivica's dream of becoming a star. And that was around the time that the I ICONIC Pam Grier walked into her life. Vivica was completely transfixed. Foxxy Brown was Vivica's IDOL growing up. Even though NONE of the Fox children were into TV, they would be into outdoor activities and physical sports. Vivica began to model her behavior/demeanor on the blend of strength, smarts and the beauty of this unapologetically powerful black woman, the first she ever seen on TV. Pam Grier herself became Vivica's own personal Shero. Years later, Vivica was able to interview Pam for a BET special. Vivica could barely make it through the interview. She was crying so damn much. Pam was a friend in Vivica's head until life made it happen. Becoming part of Vivica's "squad goals"., She's even named her production company Foxy Brown Productions in tribute to this woman.
In Vivica's speech to Pam; her words became lost in her emotions. Pam responded graciously, taking an emotional Vivica's hand and assured her validity of her emotions and that Vivica truly meant it. Pam told her of the meaning of Passing A Torch so others can do it too! With Pam as her life goal, Vivica began to build her own squad even if they were imaginary friends in her head. Pam Grier showed Vivica the presence of being a movie star, then Diana Ross showed Vivica the essence/beauty of a glamorous black woman. Someone whom earned EVERY PENNY on her own without a man.
Michael Jackson and Diana Ross were the empowerment of entertainment showing Vivica what was possible! She would put on Diana Ross songs and do little runway shows in her home, feeling that Diana would approve of every beauty facet that makes the mold of Vivica A. Fox. She would use music to exercise. Jumping rope and ankle weights to build her calves. One of her very first gigs were an extra in the Remember The Time video. Well, her arm appeared in a cameo. It didn't matter that Vivica was an extra. She didn't care. Vivica was just grateful for the involvement and environmental space as Michael. When he passed away in 2009, Vivica had lived with Michael in her mind for so long. He was the king of her imaginary squad. Vivica wept uncontrollably for 3 days. As Vivica began her junior year of high school, she began venturing for her own entertainment stories/magazines, on anything involving Diana & Michael. Vivica KNEW that The Jacksons. Like her, of the Indiana coverage when she would read them in her bed. Vivica could see Michael's Indiana beginnings as an example of a would be future for her.
Meanwhile, while everyone was making their senior year-to-be-college plans, Vivica's plan was in California to MAKE IT! After enough of it, her mother couldn't take it. She was DEMANDING that her daughter go to college. So, they negotiated. Vivica found a 2-yr program at Golden City College in Huntington Beach, CA. It would allow Vivica to study part-time whilst pursuing modeling. That was the deal Vivica HAD TO make. Once Vivica was able to convince her mom to allow her to go, her first requirement was a job to save money to get her there. So, her first job was at Burger Chef. Vivica worked the counters and takeouts. It was just the start of Vivica's love of being a provider when she came home. Burger Chef was her ground until she could make her wings/feet fly. Every paycheck brought her closer to California; the land of s-heroes.
DON'T GET OLDER, GET FUCKING BETTER!
Michelle Obama and Diahann Carroll were on her mind during Vivica's stint on Celebrity Apprentice, having a boardroom confrontation with a woman of lesser value; Vivica mentally thought of these women, trying to embody their grace and directness. After the show aired, mercy graced Vivica with a call from Lee Daniels, wanting her for a role on his show, Empire. She was able to work with her spirit sister, Taraji P. Henson who was her character's sister on the show. Kismet. Taraji had come to feel the way about Vivica felt about Pam Grier was to her. For practical purposes, it's important to reach out to mentors in REAL life.
One of her mentors that Vivica was desperate to work with coming up at that time was the Queen herself, Queen Latifah. Being with her on the set of Set It Off was a TRUE learning experience. Production itself had to be scheduled around Latifah's sitcom, Living Single. But, Latifah was TRULY committed. Falling asleep in her makeup chair, getting cornrows as she dozed off & slept. Watching Latifah helped Vivica define what was possible - and smart - in not being limited to being typecast. Vivica was also influenced by those whom has the Entreprenurial spirit. Soaking in what she could about branding and diversifying. Taking lessons taught to her TO/AT HEART! No matter the aspect of the entertainment industry; singing, acting, producing; etc. Whatever Vivica put out, she made sure her brand stood out. Her TRUE brand is to ALWAYS QUALITY! Always being great should be the main focus. Think too big. Never class yourself down to please others. If you do it right, instead of following others. . .they'll follow you!
Just one month after high school graduation, Vivica packed her bags for California. She was 17-yrs-old, and felt like her life was finally starting. Before leaving Indy, Vivica went to get a personal religious blessing one last time. By this time, Vivica's GOAL was becoming known. A model and to MAKE IT! Vivica began to thank her Reverend very much for his positivity. Warning Vivica to stay out of trouble. Keep her head above water and NOT to fall prey to the night life. Bright and early the next day, Vivica's father was there to drive his baby girl out West; He told Vivica that she was his MOST ADVENTUROUS child. He knew that Vivica was ready to take life by the sponge.
After leaving the flats of Indiana and reading Route 66, Vivica's eyes were enamored with all they seen and took-in. They hit Las Vegas through to Huntington Beach. That is when Vivica SEEN the beauty of California. The more they ventured, the less colorization there was in the "white" environment. The deal was that Vivica was to stay with Marvin and his girlfriend, Diana, during this time. As siblings reunited, tears flowed endlessly. Due to Diana not wanting to play tour guide to her boyfriend's little sister, Vivica took in Huntington Beach on her own. Seeing everything, Breathing it in. Taking it in. This little Indiana girl literally stepped off a sidewalk so she could touch her first palm tree. As she took in her environment, one of the things Vivica KNEW she had to do was live on her own 2 feet. After a week of settling in California, Vivica called her mother. Money Vivica didn't want. Telling her mother of her plan to work and earn her way. Vivica could do schoolwork and do REAL mother. She thought money being sent to her was a sign of laziness. Vivica KNEW her mom HATED LAZY! So, her mother remained Quiet!
Vivica insisted on earning on her own! for herself! Everlyena was proud of her baby girl for standing on her own 2 feet. Vivica had gone out and gotten a job right away. In fact, she got 2 of them. One was at WaldenBooks. The other was Famous Raymond's Potato Palace (Talk about diversifying your portfolio).
Working there at The Potato Palace, Vivica just meshed well with her co-workers. They clicked right away. Vivica had confessed of her troubles living with her sister-in-law, Diana, who was dreaming of a life as a military life. She suspected that this was a life planned without her brother's knowledge. Vivica confessed to her co-worker, Melanie, of her troubles, who insisted that Vivica couldn't stand her living roommate situation. Melanie invited Vivica to live with her family. Vivica was given an extra-room - if she didn't mind paying rent. That was more like it! Vivica didn't want charity, and she needed her own space. And the rent was better than what she was paying, so Vivica jumped at the chance. And Vivica was building up her California friendships along the way. Looking back, Vivica found herself physiologically running from loneliness. Recreating what she had back home became a safety net from being scared along the way of her adventures.
Breaking into modeling was soon to be tougher than expected. Every time Vivica made an appointment with an agency, she had her photos ready to display. She'd walk in and the rejection was pretty quick, though they thought they were being kind. Every time she went in, their response was to categorize her as one just like her before. The "Already got one like her" with a throw-away gesture. After the polite rejection came the awkward polite walkaway. This area is before a box for everyone. Vivica needed some excitement to make-up for the menial in-between while facing rejection constantly. So, she ventured out to Los Angeles, hanging out with more ladies. Vivica was discovering who she was and that nightlife was calling her. Exactly like her Reverend had warned her about. Vivica would venture out with her L.A. group and party. It was just such an amazing time to meet people, going out on Saturday and NOT hear punishment from Everlyena. The more work Vivica got during partying for the weekends; the less of a WORK life she got during the week. But Vivica soon realized she had to "flipping the script". After realizing the environment and her friend group at the time, there was a better class to be around than those back home. This group in L.A. were only interested in being SEEN! Then, Vivica came to a realization herself:
"I am around people who are going nowhere, and I KNOW I am better than this. All this clubbing and not building up my paychecks." Vivica REALIZED she HAD TO buckle down and GET SHIT DONE!
Vivica had entered a few modeling competitions. One was called FaceFinders and she was able to go to Arizona and become a finalist. Everyone was talking about heading their way to New York. "That was where all the models go". A girlfriend of hers wanted to get into the music industry and they both had New York in common. So, off they went to Hell's Kitchen. Their apartment was a dingy little hole-in-the-wall with 2 mattresses on the floor. No matter what Vivica did scrubbing, cleaning. . . .no matter what, it never felt like home. It was a romantic starving-artist type of scene. Only the exact opposite. Vivica called Everlyena as soon as she arrived to a phone for which she replied: "Well, I've moved to Hell, Mom. "
A friend from L.A., who had already established residence in L.A. was going to travel with Prince, She had welcomed Vivica warmly. She literally rescued Vivica. Prince had put this friend in a penthouse across town by Grand Central Station. Due to this friend's frequent travel schedule, Vivica & a friend, Jill Jones, could reside there for free. The only instructions were to take care of the residence. Vivica promised! She and the residing dooms were some pampered bitches. It was like Vivica moved from the projects to Beverly Hills. Even the water felt rich!
Vivica would return from a modeling look-out and return home to look over the city. It may not have been her life, but Vivica could certainly borrow from it. Vivica lived like a princess for nearly a year, not paying rent, her modeling career treading water. Then, one day, Vivica received a call . . . .news that felt like hearing a record-scratch. Jill was to be moving. If Jill moved, then, Vivica had to move. When the repo man came, it was like Vivica's life was repossessed. Vivica made the mistake of becoming comfortable in someone else's success!
Vivica had to pull herself up by her bootstraps, but she was DAMN WELL DETERMINED NOT to return to Indiana. She decided to return to Huntington Beach to finish school; (Which she did, getting her associate's degree in Social & Behavioral Sciences). Vivica took a cab to the airport and her entire life crammed into 2 bags. Upon her departure, Vivica looked back at Manhattan and vowed to return. And she was. The next time Vivica went to New York, she was a bona fide soap opera star. And yes, Vivica finally met Prince in 2011. Being invited to dance for him at his show at The Forum. During the excitement around, Vivica was too busy dancing to thank him for his generousity. Prince's passing was a shocking blow to her, and Vivica would be forever indebted to him for Vivica's first real taste of luxury.
Once Vivica returned to California, there was NO Bullshitting around. She needed to be ready, stay attentive for opportunity and BE READY! (If you're ready, you don't have to GET ready.) IMMEDIATELY! No pussy-footin'! Get Shit Done! Time. Vivica carried her portfolio with her everywhere, expecting to be SPOT-ready. With doing that, putting her intention out there, fate responded with an "I See You, Girl". It happened while Vivica was going to have lunch with a girlfriend outside of Cravings, an Italian restaurant on Sunset Blvd. A man with a British accent asked if Vivica was an actress. She replied of model status. She offered her portfolio. Politely declining, but he did offer his number. He offered her work on a television show that he was producing. He turned out to be a producer at Paramount. Vivica felt like she was in a REAL LIFE And she was never seen again. . .moment. Instead, Vivica listened to her instincts. This was the moment she stayed READY for. Nothing was wanted but Vivica's talent. People were beginning to SEE what Vivica KNEW had. One, a, man named Trevor, that wanted for the TV show, became Vivica's guardian angel. He was able to get Vivica an agent and an audition for a pilot at Paramount. When she went in, Vivica didn't know what the hell she was doing. She smiled, pushed her fear aside and did it anyway. What's inspiring is when you get nothing, you got nothing to lose. The result of the audition was that they see that Vivica was green. Green as all hell. But, they knew Vivica was new to the job. But, they liked her. She didn't get that job. But, she was on their mind for other jobs.
Vivica lucked out on a Clearasil commercial where she had no lines and was chased by pimples. Other people were yelling at her in the ad to RUN! But, it was work. It paid $400 and You Have To Start Somewhere. Vivica kept working her paying day jobs, while she auditioned, but she began working smarter and harder. Vivica liked the bookstone job and her other job. But, she was offered to work with a girlfriend at Bob's Big Boy and be a REAL waitress that made money. That was what got Vivica from behind the counter and was introduced to the world of waitressing. She loved it. Vivica felt like she was being graded in tips at the end of the meal.

Days Of Our Lives |
Vivica was a complete nervous wreck prior to her first few days on Days Of Our Lives. She had her lines down cold, make no mistake, but Vivica was worried about the 5A call time. She was still living in Huntington Beach, CA, and she needed to get to the NBC Studios in Burbank. Everyone knows how L.A. traffic is. A friend offered Vivica a couch to sleep on. Her major TV debut followed a night off couch surfing.
Everyone was on-set was really sweet, while Vivica was starstruck. She was now surrounded by people she'd watched on TV for years. So, there they were; speed-reading, dressed down and checked their makeup. To this day, Vivica has the UPMOST RESPECT for soap opera actors. Everyone who's ever worked on soaps has stated. Soaps are like acting boot camp due to the guelest of schedules. If your character has a 5-week storyline, that's 5x/week X 5 workloads of scripts of pages and memorize an entirety of dialogue. You also have to make the most outlandish storyline, real all while hitting your mark and crying on-cue. No one has time for you to get teary for a crying scene. When Vivica first had trouble, the crew had a trick that Vivica took advantage of.
Vivica also learned about the art of craft services. That's one thing about show business: You get fed well; due to food being everywhere. That's why there's weight issues among the sets of projects. Similar to the Tupac Shakur quote that people know well: We are hungry. Please let us in. Sometimes craft services offer a meal. Other times, which is a pet peeve of Vivica's, wraps or garbage. It all depends on the size of production and those of the budget they're feeding in an entire cast. In soaps, breakfast was always available. Due to an early on-set time and a 12-work day, On Days, you could go to the commissary for lunch, and that was always a blast. It became a REAL community. Working actors achieving their dreams.
Even though Vivica had work, she remained in audition mode. Every day, Vivica tried to earn her part in the show. She knew her lines. Vivica knew her partners lines. She showed up early and stayed late. She wanted to be there more, but the writers weren't building up her story only.

Born On The Fourth Of July |
Her character's name was a Hooker, VA hospital, so that gives you a sense of her scene with Tom Cruise. She viewed her role as a one-day shoot and it was overwhelming. She was just trying to avoid being fired, so Vivica felt like she was in the way. She admits to looking forward to seeing THAT guy from Cocktail. As Vivica was looking, a crew guy stopped right in front of her. With his slovenly, sloppy appearance, after they shook hands and met, Vivica realized it was, in fact, Tom Cruise. He heard Vivica and basked in the acknowledgement. So, then that's what became of Vivica's first meeting with Tom. He was polite and committed to his work. The way Tom treated the crew and staff on this film, Vivica thought to herself: That's how a star acts! You can be humble and still be confident. Despite who he's become TODAY, Tom taught Vivica an IMPORTANT lesson in those days that stays with her that was passed on to the future generations and and she still does it to this day on every single set she's on.
Meanwhile,, Days still wasn't excelling depth into Vivica's character. She was still holding down her waitressing gigs. But, she didn't want to turn down good work like China Beach or opportunities to do small film roles if Days was going to cut her at any moment, so Vivica asked for a contract. They stated to be unable to at that time, so Vivica made a decision. She had to go. Remember if you don't feel valued or not selling like you think you should, get real and think about why? Working hard means going above and beyond, not simply doing what's in the job description. If you're in an office or company, you've got to be a team player. That means coming in early, doing something extra, doing little things. When you go out for coffee, bring extra to prove you're a team player and show tenacity. If you've done everything you possibly could and are still not moving up, you can walk away knowing your worth. If you're not valued, move the fuck on, Baby. That's what Vivica did with Days. Vivica had heard about an opportunity to join Generations, the first soap opera centering on an African-American family. With the promise of a 10x bigger role that that of Days. After venturing for the role, Vivica got it.
Vivica's Generations character, Maya Reubens, was a dance girl which was fun to play. The best part was finding out Richard Roundtree, was to play her dad. Vivica brought layers to the work. People would criticize Richard for working with Vivica. . .thinking she would be a scene stealer. But, Vivica was still new to being an actress. Her first ever love scene was on Generations. It was with Kristoff St. John, who was the male lead to the show. And Vivica damn near ran out of the bed after the scene. Kristoff was such a pro, but that piece of Angie from Indy still resided with her. Vivica thought her mom would kill her for this. When Vivica first started acting, her first impulse was that Everlyena would kill her. But, you still have to be ready and face your fears and do it anyway. Having courage doesn't mean you still don't get anxious. Every now and then, butterflies in your stomach are the beginning of something new and is still important to you. And that's good!
Day-to-day on Generations, Richard Roundtree gave Vivica such a sense of protection. One day, they were working with a certain director, the type of director who treats actors with a "kiss the ring/beneath my feet" attitude. So, Vivica asked the director a question: Not a cliched one, one where she needed direction on what room to enter on or something, and this man IMMEDIATELY SNAPPED on her. Vivica blinked. Her instinct was to fight, but her other instinct was to keep her damn job. When Mr. Roundtree saw how the director was SCREAMING at Vivica, Richard came to her rescue and IMMEDIATELY defended her. Vivica turned to him REAL QUICK fast enough to mouth her love for him. Since then, Richard Roundtree has gone on to play Vivica's father in a variety of other projects; such as, Beverly Hills, 90210 and in various stage plays, Due to her admiration of Richard, that explains why Vivica always referenced him anywhere. He also taught her one other IMPORTANT lesson: Be ready to stand up for others. SEE SOMETHING. SAY SOMETHING!
Around this Generations time, Vivica had a VERY DEAR friend that had come out to her. He spent a lot of time talking about women around one another, and Vivica could tell he was making up stories to remain closeted. And Vivica didn't want that for him. She had told him to sit his ass down. She was able to comfortably have him come out to her. After expressing it out loud, his true identity as a gay man, he was able to comfortably exhale. He hadn't told a single soul before! For someone whom grew up in the Bible Belt, and thought he had no choice. This man, true to his core, thought he was a bad person. ABSOLUTELY NOT; Vivica stated, crying at the sheer notion of this man's thought process, Vivica, therein, went in giving her opinion and FULL SUPPORT! Everyone needs to be told they're deserving of love and they're great. Vivica urges STRONG SUPPORT for LGBT people, support & causes.
Generations proved to be great work for Vivica, but as her storyline built up, she was only working 3 days a week. That left space open for her waitressing job. Vivica was NO dummy. She kept her waitressing job because she knew the bottom could drop . She began working at L.A. Pizza & Pasta in the Beverly Center., L.A.'s fanciest mall. Vivica's sort of in/out as a working actress. Sometimes during her shift, Vivica became recognized for her work on a soap opera. She was genuinely grateful for the recognition from the show. It was due to her voice at work they recognized. After asking questions of admiration, Vivica realized THAT was a defining moment. If you're going to be doing this acting thing and make it a success, keep your day job, but commit to her 24-7 dream job. As soon as Generations upped Vivica's to 4-to-5 days/week, she quit the restaurants. After she quit, Generations was cancelled! But, Vivica didn't regret her decision because of having $25,000 banked. She thought she was rich. Once she thought she had MONEY, REALITY set in.
Vivica soon realized she was burning through the money, auditioning again and wondering if she made a mistake leaving waitressing. So, she turned to a friend for advice. While doing Generations, Vivica had met Sheila Wills; who'd become a real mentor to her. In fact, Sheila is her acting coach to this day. Vivica always goes to her for advice. Keep your skills in shape. Vivica treated auditions like sharing experiences, meeting people and experimenting with different types of dialogue. Vivica did stand-in on-sets to get herself an arial view to study her craft. She didn't let anything slide. Then, she landed on The Young & The Restless. Dr. Stephanie Simmons that seemed like a prize. But, Vivica wanted more. She didn't know it at the time, but Y&R would become her big ticket to becoming a Hollywood movie star.
Knock on Heaven's door, honey. Hell, kick it in! That's exactly what Vivica did in 1994, when she marched into her agent's office with one goal. Everyone was out to get Independence Day. There was a role for a kick-ass black woman in this film: Jasmine Dubrow was in the running, whom Vivica very much liked very much for a Fresh Prince episode. She had asked why she wasn't chosen. Their response was that Vivica was a "soap star"and that she "needed to know her place". Vivica wouldn't accept that while she loved the pleasantries that Y&R brought. Vivica wanted & craved more. She needed to take her career to the next level.
It turned out that the producer's wife had seen Vivica's work on the soaps and suggested her for the wife role in Independence Day. The wife was pregnant and at home and seen Vivica's work. She had called her husband and asked about the casting problem? She had suggested Vivica. Her agent contacted Vivica and sounded amused with news. The role they were casting for was for Vivica's type. They had kept searching with no results. Finally, they found her. It was one of those moments where you realize your life is about to get a turbocharge. Here it comes. . . .
Now, Jasmine is a stripper in the film. So, Vivica went all out with getting her patent-leather jumpsuit and killer heels. She went to the audition with her gear on and thought she was fine. But, the casting director thought differently. Vivica went with the description of the character, which felt like a shrinking moment. Realizing they didn't want a stripper; they wanted more of a Milk Money type for this character. Milk Money with a different feel. When Vivica was told she could audition again, she was so present to take in criticism and learn from it. They wanted her to succeed, and the commentary was a tool to do better. Take in the commentary, consider it and the options to hear. So, Vivica did her homework.
Vivica rented Speed and studied Sandra Bullock. That kind of look and SHE GOT IT. What they were looking for as far a type of character. When Vivica returned to the audition, she dressed more appropriately with a summer dress, combat boots and ankle socks with lace in them. After being seen with that look, Vivica GOT the idea. Now, she just needed the role. In total, she had to audition 6 times. After getting ahold of her, Vivica had gotten the part. They needed Vivica prepped and ready the very next day. BOOM! Vivica was thrust right in there! She was prepped. Vivica KNEW EVERYONE'S lines and was prepared. NO EXCUSES!
It was a good thing she did, because the director of the film, Richard Emerich, told
Vivica a secret at the Independence Day premiere. If she did well on her first day,
Vivica would've been fired DAY ONE! He even stated that actress, Kristen Wilson's unavalibility their first choice. A comment that the director had clearly been sitting on. The producers had SEEN Vivica's dailies and that's when they seen their Jasmine for the film. Vivica's entire career was on the line from that very day on-set, and she had no idea what was in store.

You have to be present and show up, due to never knowing who's watching and an opportunity arises. Standing out means doing what others wouldn't. The jobs no one wants. That's what makes you a BOSS! Meanwhile during filming, Vivica thought the biggest pressure on her was her stripping scene. She took that SERIOUSLY! Vivica got a stripper tutor. Production had found a local strip joint, and she had to be there at 9A while the place was closed for lessons/"class" resumed every morning for a week, and it was strict. It was like Juliard for dancers. Ground rules were laid on the 1st day. Lose your inhibitions. Learn to walk in 4" heels with shorts on with a G-String underneath. Vivica replied like a little church-girl mouse, "Okay". But, she did it. Next time they met, it was all business. Next came finding comfortability in the role. BE COMFORTABLE IN THE UNCOMFORTABLE!
This woman turned out to be the perfect teacher for Vivica. Will became Vivica's personal trainer. They were in such a small town in Utah to film. So small they had fuck-all to do there. But, they were only there for 2 weeks, and early on, Vivica had 2 days off. They were put in a big house and Vivica basked in the luxurious amenities of the job in the location. Hanging out by the Jacuzzi, having a margarita. What else is there to do? Then, Vivica seen her co-star, Will, next to her and did a double take. He asked what she was doing? SERIOUS AS A HEART-ATTACK! She was chillin', relaxin', havin' a drink on her day off. Shit, next thing you know, Will and Vivica did push-ups and weights. This film was going to be one that changed both of their lives. They had to look their best. So, Vivica put down her margarita. And, Will was a tough taskmaster, but he was right. Don't let someone else work harder than you, because you'll be handing them the keys to YOUR success! Will also helped Vivica plan the next step in her career, One of MY PERSONAL favorites of Vivica's film's, Set It Off.
The director of the film was friends with Will and came to visit the ID4 set. Jada was already cast, and the relationship between Will, Jada & Vivica had become a family thing. Will had wanted Vivica for Frankie, but the studio had wanted Rosie Perez for the role. Hearing that, Vivica's face fell. Why want me? You can have an Award-Winner for this picture? They had asked if she could audition for Tisean (T.T.), but Vivica was to be ready to audition for Frankie. After reading the script, Will told Vivica to Take what was hers/yours. He KNEW Frankie's story was the biggest in the fil as one that viewers identify with as she responds to what happens when your back is against the wall. He wanted people to see the grit behind the beauty of Vivica. Tap into that Angie Fox of Indy. Be the pretty bank-teller than flip it to the badass Angie of the Projects.
Vivica auditioned on a lunch break and had gotten the part. During the audition, as Vivica spoke the scripted words, she wasn't there. . . she WAS Francesa Sutton. Vivica will always appreciate Will for helping her prep for this role. Behind the scenes, when they weren't on film, it became a bonding experience on that film. Queen Latifah still calls her Big V to this day. Rehearsing so much almost melded these women into their OWN lives. To make their friendship believable on-screen, Gary wanted them to chill and hang out on off-shoot days. Doing what they would hang out just as their characters would translate the history on-screen. There was a love mesh between the ladies. Kimberly was on her own due to being a REAL young mom at that time. So, the main ones who hung out all the time were Vivica, Jada & Latifah. The funny thing is that Jada hadn't even heard of Latifah's music yet, but they were so hungry for female role models that when she saw a photo of Latifah, Jada demanded that she be the emcee and introduce Latifah that night. Meanwhile, Latifah was so young, she had her mother, Rita Owens, with her. 2 Kindred Spirits recognizing that early drive. Vivica introduced Latifah to sushi when they were downtown and a sushi spot was the only place open.
Vivica refused to eat anything raw. If she was paying for anything food-wise, it was going to be cooked! Latifah loved what Vivica introduced her to. To this day, when Vivica & Jada meet up for a meal, they have sushi to commemorate the start of it all. Jada always reminds Vivica to take her moment and let the emotions happen for you. Jada was right. Vivica still does that to this day. Vivica does ALOT of work to get into character before having to emerge as that said character. Vivica creates a backstory and creates mannerisms to go along with the character. Vivica LITERALLY researches the backstory and bones of her characters to find their being. Take her moment, let the emotions come in so she can FEEL the AUTHENTICITY in which to tell the story.
F. Gary Gray was one of the BEST directors Vivica ever worked with. He had a clever, strong vision of what he wanted/demanded. That was excellence. One time during filming everyone went to lunch and returned to set. No less than 2 minutes later, Gary let them have it on lateness. Vivica is a STICKLER for time. It's A PART of her being self. Still, she inferred that they were hardly late. Gary was insistent on perfection and that they were making a CLASSIC! F. Gary Gray was tough, but the things that made him so great as a director and as a boss was that he would bend if the idea merited it.
Vivica had ad-libbed a line during her audition, and it wasn't in the script when it came time to shooting. It was during the first act of the film. Frankie, whom was already shell-shocked from the robbery, is interrogated at the acknowledgement of the robber. She's already covered in blood from seeing a woman shot right in front of her face. As the scene progressed to interrogation with 2 detectives on Frankie's association with the robber, it was afterward when speaking to the female that Vivica adlib'd that particular line about thirst. . .holding her head high. That line wasn't in the script. Vivica asked Gary if she could try it out for the film. When F. Gary saw the take on editing, he threw his hands up KNOWING Vivica was right. The last 6 of the 9 weeks were filmed at night. The cast were enveloping into vampires. It took awhile but for their schedules to commence, but it was so worth it.
Set It Off showed Vivica's versatility. You see Frankie make a transition when the chips are down, becoming completely hood while maintaining strength & integrity. To this day, celebrities and others were still coming up to Vivica and stating that Frankie is a role model to them and that had made her cry hearing that. That year, 1996, was a lesson in diversifying. Later in his career, F. Gary Gray was handed the keys to The Fast & Furious franchise. Set It Off showcased Vivica's different strengths. Vivica had stated many times that versatility has equaled her longevity. You can't get typecast on life. There is a certain self life for chapters in life. You need a second act. If you diversify yourself, you're not typecast in life. Your job won't allow your life to grow.
Money and success gives Vivica the freedom to take risks and take the parts she wants. Some work offers a cappuccino maker; others have a coffee pot. What you do now leads to bigger opportunities later. When you're afraid to try; you become comfortable in the skin you're in. People generally don't believe her, but Vivica did stand-in work when she started out. Vivica did that for Jasmine Guy when starting on Fresh Prince. Vivica could've settled for that with different storylines, but she wanted to be the REAL star. Just as she kept auditioning, it sharpened her interview skills. One day's work equals a resume's work to get better. If it's one thing to get an interview, but it's the experience that backs up the proof of why it's true! you should be there. When one door closes, another one opens.
Never settle when you have the potential to be great. Vivica turned down the role in Two Can Play That Game 3x due to the battle of the sexes aspect. But, Vivica wasn't really into it. She felt if she didn't take it; it would've been a missed opportunity to show a sisterhood with your girlfriends. But, the way it was written wasn't something to be proud of. So, Vivica was straight with the director. When it comes to talking to the audience for the film, Vivica pictured the audience screaming at her. Finally, a producer had had enough. He told her to rent Ferris Bueller's Day Off and use that film as a key to speaking to the audience. From that explanation, Vivica did as instructed and she GOT the gist. It was a revelation. After seeing Ferris, Vivica apologized to the director for not understanding earlier. When you receive constructive criticism and it helps you deliver, you have to acknowledge it. Vivica loved her girlfriends in that film. Monique was a wonder for that film. Monique was the one who suggested Vivica for Shante's role. Everyone was already cast. The 3 girl chorus became 4 with Vivica, thanks to Monique. Vivica had to consult the director with the way REAL black women speak to each other in friendships.
Another girlfriend whom had Vivica's back during the film behind-the-scenes was Whitney Houston. Her was-band at the time was Bobby Brown. Vivica & Whitney connected due to their mutual display in the media. They became girlfriends whom ryrould hang out on a whim. Vivica keeps a portrait of Whitney in her bedroom to wake up to daily with Whitney smiling. Just as she loves to remember her.
When the press came around to do the film, 9/11 happened and there were more pressing matters at hand. But, thanks to airplay and film release, people are discovering the film more/more. Whether it be for Vviica's role or style. Then came a 15-minute interval with Quentin Tarantino at a coffee shop. It was to see whether or not Quentin liked Vivica He'd seen her on-sight whether he wanted her for the role. She thought. . . That's some shit, but that's okay. A role written for a black woman. Vernita Green was a cold-blooded assassin in hiding out in the suburbs of Pasadena - until Uma Thurman comes for her. Vivica was so anxious when she got to that coffee shop. She felt like it was an audition for an audition.
Quentin first spotted her for the Kill Bill role after spotting her on a Two Can Play That Game DVD cover. If she moves him on-screen, he KNEW he had found his Vernita Green. In discussions, Quentin loved to tell stories. If he likes you, Oh Boy! can Quentin talk. Will he talk. They discussed their favorite movies. Vivica talked about Pam Grier and her love of Pam and Richard Roundree. The 15-minute meeting stretched for 1hour & 1/2 until he offered Vivica a scene and went to her house to go over with her. She was nervous & Timid that her home would be held against her. She made Quentin PROMISE her. On top of the Kill Bill gig, Vivica invested in real estate jobs and was doing very well for herself, Thank You! Due to the house that Quentin lived in, this is why he told Vivica not to judge. But boy, did she want a tour inside! Before he could give the tour, Vivica found herself scouting a location. Quentin appreciated their work but he wanted them, Vivica to do her very best and trust the work.

Uma & Vivica |
Vivica watched Uma argue with Quentin, intelligently and successfully, for wardrobe changes and even dialogue rewrites. Uma made it a true collaboration. She suggested that, after watching films with him, toward something new from just a karate film to a masterpiece. And a cornerstone of their careers. That is the work and personal moment in Vivica's career that she's MOST PROUD of. It took 4 days to film their first fight scene, and Vivica took a long, well-deserved bath when it was over. As Vivica sat in the tub, she counted all the bruises all over herself. . . counting up to 30. And she did it with pride and gratitude. With that, Vivica is PROUD of her battle scars. She had done a Tarantino film, and nobody could take that accomplishment away from her. Vivica is FOREVER TRULY GRATEFUL for the opportunity.
You have to remember to bust your ass to the grind. But, you also have to reset and refocus for the grind you have. Your soul & body need replenishment while accomplishing your work. Becoming laser focused on your goals and your goals sometimes means your social life. Years back, Vivica became notoriously famous in her circle for hosting her "Football Sundays", inviting people over to come over for snacks/drinks and enjoy the game. "Football Sundays" had a family feel to them, like an old-fashioned block party in Indy. Vivica always had a game on, and she gave shy people jobs as a way to open them up and talk to people about town. The only requirement for the Vivica invite was her love for you, so the crowd was naturally diverse, so life's journey of people convened in one circle. It's better to have a simple gathering and understand that you and the good people are the draw.
Vivica tells the story of the comment culture today and the harm of social media in today's society. . .with that, she has 1 thing to say . . . Turn Your Haters Into Congratulators! As you become the person you are meant to be, people will want to drag you down with jealousy. If they can't take your success, they'll try to joy. As the ICONIC LEGEND Maya Angelou said: When people show you who they are, you better believe them. At the time of this book, Vivica was in her 50s and recently learned to appreciate her friendships. A lesson she learned with such gratitude with help of her assistant, Damen. The simplest of lessons have the biggest revelation.
It is truly better to invest in charity. A real charity. Giving back is therapeutic. You have to have some time when it's not about you or your career. Vivica has been involved with Best Buddies for over 15 years, after being introduced to it by a friend. Vivica is/am proud to be able to raise $70,000 for them when she competed on Celebrity Apprentice. While doing the show, Vivica took some kids out to lunch. She was able to SEE firsthand the work involved that the organization she charitied for ACTUALLY does. Put your money where it's VALUED as opposed to where it's wasted.
Vivica already mentioned being married before, but now comes the dissolution of marriage. She knows why she did it. It was kind of a blink-and-you-miss-it marriage. It was in 1998 that Vivica went into a 4-yr union that she had NO BUSINESS venturing into. It began on December 19, 1996. Vivica had just wrapped Soul Food, which was primarily shot in Chicago. When Vivica returned to L.A., her best girlfriends set out to celebrate her homecoming; so they headed to the Bar One nightclub in Beverly Hills. Hanging out and catching up on the veracities of their lives when this 6ft'9 came up to them. During introductions, Vivica fell for his lines and she didn't for his lines and she didn't want a guy to get in the way of a ladies night. She took her girlfriends out to the dance floor like it was a meeting. As Vivica danced, low-key flirting began. When he noticed Vivica not looking his way, he walked away. But, then he returned. He had bought 20 roses from the outside vendors. As other guys began talking to Vivica, he was persistent rose-to-guy competition. It had been so long since Vivica was wooed that it worked!
Vivica let him move into her home 4 months later. She was truly in love. He proposed 1 year to the day that they met, December 19th. The night of the proposal, the meal was the worst. The entire meal, there was an intention of a proposal, but to no avail. As they began parting ways, Vivica began going through the emotional stages of grief mentally. As Vivica looked back in the passenger side window, it HIT her that she was expecting too much. When they got home, Vivica seen the house filled with romantic gestures with help by Vivica's assistant whom set up the surprise engagement. During the proposal itself, Vivica was crying so much that she HAD TO blink her eyes at the candlelight. She couldn't see straight! Vivica's tears also reminded her of her to-do list. She mentally thought she was to fulfill a dream wedding. Having that wedding on December 19th one year to their vow off devotion.
It was held at the Park Plaza in L.A. A side hustle featuring venues for brides with an over-the-top Cinderella taste. Vivica was guilty as charged. She really went for it; with a horse-drawn carriage and everything. Paparazzi fell out of a tree delaying Vivica's big entrance. Someone freaked. Called an ambulance, but they were okay. They invited 200 people, including Madame King, the biggest celebrity in Vivica's heart. But, they also had Vivica's girlfriends, Lela Rochon & Tisha Campbell-Martin. Tisha serenaded the couple with The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face. Tishina Arnold sang The Lord's Prayer in acapaella. After the festivities of a joyous wonderful wedding that was perfect at its core, then REAL life began. Vivica was miserable.
After the first year, Vivica realized she made a mistake. Even though she stayed, the big house Vivica lived in felt like a big ol' prison that she built around herself. Her husband liked seeing Vivica as a breadwinner and didn't have any fucking clue about their finances. Money was there; but finances are a partnership that goes both ways with input going out and coming in. Resentment will work its way into every little interaction you have with your partner. That's what happened to Vivica. She let her resentment become held down that it came fast/furious. It happened during an outfitting for him to wear to a premiere they were both attending. At the store, he announced that he needed a new pair of black shoes. What broke Vivica down into the ending was hearing her own mother, Everlyena, say to her: I didn't raise you to take care of a man. Vivica knew she would only become more resentful if she wasn't honest with him. At home, Vivica sat down with him and told him she needed help carrying the load. He talked about getting out there to hustle more. What began as a temporary beginning for Vivica, she soon realized she was to be a non-changing permanency, with Vivica began to see a cycle. Resentment built up to a point when there was no room for love. When being honest with him didn't create change, being honest with yourself is more important.
Although they were living in a 5 bed/5 bath and an overhead of $12,000/month. In the last year of their marriage, Vivica was training for Kill Bill without pay. She had about $200,000 in the bank, and she watched it whittle down while he didn't seem to notice with no concern for Vivica at all. This was what became a light bulb moment for Vivica. It was after driving home from a long day of Kill Bill training. She walked into her house completely sore and drained to the max. The TV was on, and Vivica stood in the doorways. God had spoken to Vivica that she could NO LONGER GO THROUGH THIS ANY MORE!
Initially, it was going to be Uma Thurman going, but now they all had to go. So, after a horrific number of hours in the air, Vivica landed in China at the crack of dawn, exhausted. Just as she'd fallen asleep in her hotel room, the fucking phone rang. It was an offer on the house. She was in no mood for bullshit. Although she spoke in a pleasant voice, when Vivica returned from China, she wanted to end things with her husband as swiftly and amicably as possible. Vivica told him she already had a fully furnished apartment and paid for the rest of the year. She also put $50,000 in the bank for him. And she was done! She didn't hate the guy.
When Vivica left the house, it was like Escape From Alcatraz. She got a big-ass U-Haul and a bunch of her girlfriends came and helped to pack up her belongings. When the house was empty, they stood together and pledged that they would see Vivica through this change. Then, they had to squeeze themselves into the front of the U-Haul with Vivica at the wheel. While trying to be strong in the moment, she began crying. She began taking in huge gulps of air, and one of her friends touched Vivia's arm. . .hoping that driving off the road didn't get them killed. When Vivica could reclaim her voice from the action, she was so grateful for the love & support.
After the success of that home and gaining a huge profit, Vivica seen she was now grown-up enough not to need another giant home to show people - or herself - that she was a success. Once she buckled down and figured it out, Vivica worked herself into making herself a success in real estate investments. Let your money work for you. Not against you. Learn from those around you. The first thing Vivica learned was to Get A Prenup! Take your time and get to know your partner, and YOURSELF before rushing into a commitment with others.
It was during the timeline of Vivica's relationship with Curtis Jackson and their sheer demise, she could take what he put her through. But then, Curtis went overboard by coming at her financially going after the family she built within the cast of Empire. Getting to work with that cast was like a family reunion. Curtis began elevating his hate for Vivica from radio dissing to using Instagram as his weapon of choice. Vivica felt Empire was eclipsing his Starz show, Power. She felt shame and Badness that she suspected what Curtis posted was code for her co-star, Jussie Smollett, when Vivica had become since he was a minor kid working with his siblings. They all used to hang out like Vivica was one of the Smollett family. Vivica loves Jussie like he is her own son. The antigay remarks truly bothered Vivica.
So, in November 2015, Vivica was invited to join Andy Cohen on his show to talk about her work on Empire and the drama concerning Curtis' commentary on suggested gay themes ruining the show. Vivica went on autopilot and let her anger do the talking. Vivica had an incredibly awnry way of getting the truth out without saying it. That did it. Vivica may not have heard from Curits directly, but he sure as shit slammed Vivica on his Instagram. Everyone remembers what was going on at that time. Once the episodes aired, Curtis then proceeded to go after Vivica's Empire family big time. Taraji would come to Vivica's defense with a rebuttal post on Curtis' Instagram. After Curtis responded to Taraji, Jussie began coming to the defense of both women. After Vivica had brought this to their attention, what began as a war between Curtis & Vivica became outspread to the entire Empire family. The more Curtis continued his antics publicly and his PETTY B.S.m whether Vivica was holding on to love or anger for him, once she learned to let go, Vivica was finally free.
Within the last few years, Vivica noticed she began going through what was known as "the Change". Not a little bit - a whole lot! It HIT Vivica HARD! This is what Vivica would call a private summer. She learned she had to get in front of it. The change is gonna come. So, get in front of it. The first thing Vivica had to do was show courage and embrace this newfound chapter in her life. When you focus on yourself and listen to your body, you'll be surprised by the overall outcome. Vivica projected a sense of composure and maturity, and people noticed. Vivica began putting offers of interesting offers playing leader types, all things to embracing the new chapters in her life.
Maintaining your success as you go through changes in your life includes these lessons:
1. You will want to give in. Don't!
2. If you own the risk, you own the reward
Therein, in 2014, Vivica was ready to jump at working on Sharknado films due to the cult following it led at the time with it being a ratings phenomenon. In the middle of filming, Vivica was approached again for Celebrity Apprentice. Vivica was asked multiple times to do the show, but she wasn't sure. She had already done reality once, but in this kind of competition compacity, it's like a business soap opera. There was a risk, but doing the show appealed to Vivica's branding. She was doing more and producing and venturing well into creating the Vivica Fox Hair Collection. A venturous way to introduce herself to America as a businesswoman and extend the brand that IS Vivica Fox.
The next day during the filming of the Sharknado film, Ian & Vivica talked in discussion of his doing Celebrity Apprentice. Vivica saw Ian, jokingly, as a competition for the show. A lot of the Sharknado cast were either joining or previously participating in the show. Sharknado 2: The Second One premiered to huge ratings. nearly doubling in content and profits for the network. Tripling in numbers, Vivica became truly appreciative & grateful for the SCI-FI community. Those that tried her before for the Kill Bill films doubled their love after Vivica became part of the SCI-FI community.
During her time on Celebrity Apprentice, Vivica SWEARS TO HER CORE that she had ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA that the host of the show was truly & genuinely a monster. The first time they met, Vivica was surprised. He seemed like a fraud from the jump, but showed great presence. Whether it was a complete fabrication or not, even though they were on a "reality" show competition, you were made to think you were curing cancer or something. They all had to please him for a better days result. HAND TO FAITH! She can see the blindness from the inner circle, due to falling for it herself.
Working on that show from Vivica's standpoint, that it was the MOST RACIALLY set she was EVER on. There were only 3 other contestants of color - Keisha Knight Pulliam were among others. The family of the host carried themselves among the contestants of color with an I'm up here. You're down here attitude. As if they were The Help.
Having lived and SEEN what is POLITICALLY going on WORLDWIDE in TODAY'S 2020's environment, Vivica seen firsthand from her stint on Celebrity Apprentice. She SEES why they have such inflated views of themselves. Their name was literally unescapable with name branding on EVERYTHING & EVERYWHERE. Vivica was surprised to not become a member of the family her damn self. Just the thought of it made her blood run cold! When they all arrived, it was like Ian Ziering had all the background work to be a kiss-ass to the host to be prepared. Vivica was impressed, but it was nice to see Ian through the tough days on the show. He genuinely seemed to care about Vivica's well-being while others just wanted to see her fail. As actors they have an advantage, due to being able to take constructive criticism and sharpen their game.
They would get up at 4A and work until midnight, constantly hurtling insults toward one deadline after another. Reality TV veterans there, and that drama muscle amped and ready to create "scenes" that would get airtime. At night, finally alone, Vivica would lay out her clothes for the next day due to the morning rush, In the evenings, Vivica would be UP all night due to her inability of her mind shutting down. She mentally fixated on what could've been a better outcome of positivity. She constantly fantasized about throwing her hands up in a FUCK IT! sense. After sharing her feelings with someone, they knew just what to say to keep Vivica going.
Vivica didn't want to quit; she wanted to just be . . .off the show. But, it was just the push Vivica needed. She didn't want to be seen as a quitter. She had to keep her self in mindful check: It wasn't a show about business. It was show business. It wasn't a show with reality. It was a reality show. Vivica finished in the TOP 3 of the contestants of Celebrity Apprentice, and she won $70,000 for Best Buddies. So, Vivica herself remains a winner. She left with her head held high. One last thing that Vivica has to say about the 2020 "President" with that she didn't dislike him due to his political leaning, Vivica has NEVER disliked anyone due to a label or lifestyle. She believes in UNITING people, and the 2020 "President" has done a terrible disservice to the country by dividing it. Planting seeds in the minds that won't ever forget! United We Stand. Divided We Fall. When Celebrity Apprentice was over, Vivica thought the time spent on that show was time she'll never get back! When it finally aired, it led to something better.
The night before the boardroom war with Kenya aired, Vivica's phone rang NON-STOP! She was about to put her phone away when Vivica received call from Lee Daniels, someone she's known for many years, but never had the joy to work with. Prior to Precious' release, they watched the film together in a hotel room in Miami. Vivica KNEW it was a masterpiece. Vivica was THANKFUL for what Lee did in the presentation for the film as a society. Vivica then continued to see Lee's success rise on The Butler to Empire. Lee didn't start with pleasantries. He got right to it; talking a mile a minute, which is how lies brain works. Lee seen Vivica and thought she had a Diahann Carroll with Michelle Obama vibe to her. He HAD TO find some way to get Vivica's ass on Empire and Lee kept his work, Girl. Casting Vivica as part of the family as Cookie's older sister. Someone to play opposite of Cookie's forum as a character. Someone different.

Vivica was truly excited due to Vivica, Terrance & Taraji all having a past together professionally. It became a GENUINE family reunion the first day of arrival on-set. Due to shooting on the COLDNESS streets of Chicago at night in the off-time, Gabourey Sidibe visited old-school karaoke R&B together with a little alcohol course to jump talking the kids on the show about the trials/tribulations of fame & success. Keeping it a positive vibe at all time. Welcome To The Ride.
Vivica loved throwing and hosting Empire viewing parties, due to the satisfaction to see the reaction to her scenes with Taraji. Vivica hosted one in Hollywood with the celebrations spoken with sisters trying to get under one another's skin. Taraji had gone to Vivica for a photo, and Vivica hugged her tightly as the flash went off. They were both there to support Empire. They saw a future of 2 black women working together on TV working in a smart manner. For Vivica, it was like when she thanked Lee for Precious. A return on her investment of time in Celebrity Apprentice and of Lee's investment in her.
As if Vivica wasn't already feeling like this was her comeback moment, she was ready to tell the world she was returning as Jasmine in Independence Day: Resurgence. For Vivica, it felt like her own personal resurgence. Stepping onto that set again felt like walking into a high-school reunion. But, it wasn't. While seeing old friends, it was fun to have scenes with future stars in the making. Like Liam Hemsworth. In the beginning, Vivica was surprised they were starstruck at her! even Liam Hemsworth to some content.
So,Vivica remembered the grace that Tom Cruise did for the set of Born On The Fourth Of July. Introducing herself to the entire cast. It broke the ice. After her first night on-set, Vivica enjoyed the night to herself and prayed for what awaited her. Faith had rewarded Vivica's patience and the risks she took. Don't count me out or count yourself out. We will rise.
Remember, you can have it all, but only in stages. Nobody can have it. But, if you work hard, you can find your own successful way of having the best of all worlds. So, don't beat yourself up for it. You can have a career and no family. . .OR you can have a career that builds itself into having your own family. Now, Vivica paid the costs for the importance in life, but she has the ability to MAKE SPACE for them. Vivica SEES the IMPORTANCE'S in life. When an opportunity arrives, don't miss the opportunity to say NO! Vivica is a GROWN ASS woman who has paid the costs to be her own boss, so she gets to choose the value of her crowd. And, Dammit that feels good!
It was during the 4TH Of July weekend in 2014, Vivica accepted work buddy, Ian Ziering's, invitation to join him to co-host Chippendale's in Vegas. It was during the viewing of the show itself that Vivica had lightbulb moment of an idea. Seeing the reaction of a Magic Mike environment, due to her love of the film itself, Vivica thought with her producer's mind. The stories behind those that danced were what Vivica truly wanted to tell. Thus began the business of Vivica;s Black Magic. She thought of the idea of introducing this idea via a reality show. . . but, it had to be done right! Because Vivica's brand is QUALITY!, Not some slovenly, sloppy drunk show. Something HIGHLY RESPECTABLE with QUALITY! Vivica was ready to be the H.C.I.C. (Head Chick In Charge).
The idea was bought from Lifetime; who has had success telling the stories of other successful women. This show was a gift to women and to Lifetime. They bought Vivica's passion project. Pitching it to greenlight. A pitch being sold under an hour was unheard of in Hollywood. They held auditions and narrowed it down to callbacks for which they found 8 qualified men. Vivica dubbed them her Elite 8 from different parts of the world. Being the protective BOSS-LADY she is, Vivica kept everyone in line. She was very hands-on, but she kept her eyes off the men.
It was easy for Vivica to go through with it due to the men seeing Vivica as a "Man On The Job". Vivica may have been fine as all hell; but she was still their BOSS! Vivica put $300,000 of her own money, and was looking for money from investors. So, Vivica HAD TO take charge and not waste this opportunity. It had to be a Vegas-ready production. Vivica was going into her own money for tipping to bring SERIOUSNESS into this business and NOT just a passing theme for the moment. So, Vivica HAD TO take charge of this moment and not waste this opportunity. It had to be a Vegas-ready production. Vivica was going into her own money for tipping. Come Hell Or High Water.
Vivica always referred to the audience as her guests. She would also branch out her clothing line items as gifts for a WOW! factor. A small investment of money and effort would get a huge result. If you have unnecessary stress, it trickles down. When you're stressed everyone & the environment FEELS it. Otherwise, if it isn't . . .Happy Day = Happy Pay!

There will always be moments in Vivica's heart due to her knowing there will come a time family will no longer be available. As we grow, we have to make way for Generation Next. Meaning those like her siblings' children and families. DEEP DOWN, Vivica is still Angie from Indianapolis, IN. who is still trying to make her mother proud. Her continued goal is to keep accomplishing new goals. Setting them and accomplishing them. Vivica wants to be an advocate for women and those that life forgot.
Vivica wants to produce products that give others the ability to make their own dreams come true. She wants to grow herself as an actress, and for others like Denzel or Samuel L. Jackson to play her opposite would provide a challenge that Vivica craves. When Vivica worked with Quentin Tarantino, she was point-blanked and asked him HOW he could do so many films/ Because, he DOES the work. While everyone focuses on the stardom/fame; NOBODY focuses on the WORK! So, could Vivica! Taking a que from Quentin; Vivica is so blessed to do the work. She is proud of the financial success of her films.
When talking about playing a President in the film called Crossbreed to a reporter, the reporter pointed out that Vivica was MAKING HISTORY! For being the first African-American lady to play a president in a film.
Vivica used to make resolutions. Now, she plants seeds. Passing on the lessons she learned of her successful way to others. Planting the seeds for others just as those that were planted for her. Stick the landing of what you know and learn from your favorite cheerleader.
